Each year on the fourth Thursday in November, Americans gather for a day
of feasting, football and family. While today’s Thanksgiving
celebrations would likely be unrecognizable to attendees of the original
1621 harvest meal, it continues to be a day for Americans to come
together around the table—although with some updates to pilgrim’s menu.
The history of Thanksgiving:
In 1621, the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians shared an autumn
harvest feast that is acknowledged today as one of the first
Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies. For more than two centuries,
days of thanksgiving were celebrated by individual colonies and states.
It wasn’t until 1863, in the midst of the Civil War, that President
Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day to be held each
November.

The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is an annual parade presented by the U.S.-based retail store chain Macy's. The tradition started in 1924,tying it for the second-oldest Thanksgiving parade in the United States, along with America's Thanksgiving Parade in Detroit. The three-hour Macy's event is held in New York City starting at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on Thanksgiving Day, and has been televised nationally on NBC since 1952.
