What is Bonfire Night?
The history of November 5
On movies: “V for Vendetta” (2006)

which are missing in the script:
[voiceover]
"Remember, remember, the fifth of
November, the gunpowder, treason and
plot. I know of no reason why the
gunpowder treason should ever be forgot."
But what of the
man? I know his name ........... Guy Fawkes and I know, in 1605, he ...............
to blow up the Houses of Parliament. But who ............ he really? What was
he like? We ................ to remember the idea, not the man, because a man
can fail. He can be ..........., he can be killed and forgotten, but 400 years
later, an idea can still change the world.
I .................. first hand the power of ideas, I............ people
kill in the name of them, and die defending them... but you cannot kiss .................,
cannot touch it, or hold it... ideas ................, they do not feel pain,
they do not love... And it is not an idea that I ............, it is a man... A
man that ............. remember the Fifth of November. A man that I ...................
forget
What was the
Gunpowder Plot?
One member of the group sent a
letter to his friend who worked in Parliament, warning him to stay away on
November 5. The plot was to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London. The
King's supporters got hold of the letter and the plot was rumbled!
Guards broke into the cellars where the
gunpowder plotters were waiting. They were arrested, tortured and executed. The
Gunpowder Plot was about religion. England was a Protestant country, and the
plotters were Catholic. The group wanted to return England to the Catholic
faith. They thought they could do this by killing King James I and his
ministers.
That was all for today! See you soon!
